PH 50 Pendant Light Louis Poulsen
50 years are a long time. When two people stay together such a long period of time, it is a must to celebrate such an anniversary appropriately. Well, it is a bit unusual to celebrate a manufacturer’s connection to his lamp, but we do not speak about any lamp. The PH5, created in 1958 by Poul Henningsen, did much more than just illuminating rooms. It inspired generations of designers and influenced our perception of Danish design. And of course it deserves some kind of credit for it. Therefore Louis Poulsen presented the PH50 edition in 2008, a homage as well as a rebirth.
The Danish manufacturer added five new colours to the pendant light’s colour range, which are all perfectly fitting the lamp’s character. Besides a subdued white and black version, you can now choose between a fiery red, quite light blue and a soft green. This makes it easy to find the right lamp for every application.
The basic set-up of this classic has been taken over unchanged. The interlinked shade elements do not only have a strong decorative appeal, but do also transport the light on elaborate ways down the lampshade. The PH50 stays glare-free from every side and angle.
The main part of the light shines downwards, at the same time simultaneously a diffused blaze is thrown into the room.
Regarding the technical part Louis Poulsen has relied to the established. An E27 bulb fitting allows a huge number of different kinds of illuminants, which makes it possible once more to individualize the PH50. For example you could use a classic bulb, a halogen lamp or a modern energy-saving illuminant. With the right bulb you can as well use the integrated dimmer and adjust the light the way you like it.
