Tunto Design

Tunto Design from Finland treads new paths in the world of luminaire design. In the Finnish Järvenpää wooden luminaires are crafted by hand and sent to connoisseurs all over the world. Tunto Design has set itself the goal of incorporating the classic material wood into entirely new shapes and combining it with modern technology. With these environmentally sustainable concepts Tunto Design was able to win three consecutive Red Dot Design Awards and two Good Design Awards. Tunto was even nominated for the German Design Prize, which was a first for a Finnish company. Mikko Kärkkäinen is the man behind Tunto Design. The chief executive and lead designer leads the company and realises his visions of environment-friendly and sustainable luminaries. The subtle design vocabulary of Tunto Design’s wooden luminaries is a telltale sign of its Scandinavian origins, although its strictness is broken up with the use of modern technologies. The first luminaire created within this design philosophy, the LED1, was showered with design awards for its use of fresh colours and modern LED technology. More important, however, is the overwhelming and very quick acceptance by customers. The environment-friendly concept and design, which is without peers, was able to create a multitude of fans within a very short time period.
